Today it's some cool old screwdrivers.

These were all bought at one time and basically have the same head on them.

Two Bell Systems and one Stanley.

The guy who use to own them worked for Bell Systems back in the day.

If you notice one is stamped "51" which I believe is the year it was made.

If you can find the old wood handled screwdrivers get them as they're a dying breed. Most screwdrivers today are plastic. And wouldn't you say these look a whole lot better? It's Vintage Gear for Guys!

GRO-NELL MOUNTAINEERING BOOTS CAMP 7

Today it's a really cool pair of mountaineering / hiking boots.

And yes, they're as heavy duty as they look. Over three pounds per boot!

If you die on the mountain, don't blame the boots.

Those Italians sure know how to make hiking boots. Everything is leather on leather with a touch of leather and heavy duty hardware.

There look like size 12 so they're just a tad big on me, and up on ebay at the moment. If you need a pair of boots you'll never wear out, here you go.

Vibram soles included! I love these old hiking boots with the red laces... I had a few pairs (not as fancy as these) back when I was younger... It's Vintage Gear for Guys!

BOOKCASE GAMES LUFTWAFFE

Today it's a cool vintage game

This is from a series of Bookcase Games released in the 60's.

They were mostly war based board games. This one was called Luftwaffe.

Still with the original game pieces un-punched out.

They call them BookCase Games as you can store them like a book...

These are really cool and I wish this one was punched out so I could play it. I just don't want to do it.

They made probably 6 or so versions of these. They're great to pick up... It's Vintage Gear for Guys!

BENT WOOD SINGER 15-91 WITH KNEE CONTROL

Today it's yes, another sewing machine.

This one I couldn't pass by. It's a Singer 15 (91) in a very nice "Bent Wood" wood case.

It was super clean and even has the pretty rare, knee control instead of the standard foot one.

It's like a normal cabinet machine but fits on a table top.

It came with a bunch of attachments too.

Dates to 1930. There's where the knee lever fits.

I'll probably just sell this one as I already have a 15-91 (not as sweet as this one though) Oh, and it sews perfectly.... It's Vintage Gear for Guys!... and Girls.

SERVO MOTOR FOR MY SINGER 111W155

Today I finally got a new motor for my Singer 111w155

I got a great new Servo Motor for my super heavy duty walking foot. It replaces the old clutch motor, that are always running, always getting hot, always noisy and super heavy...

I had to do some surgery to my old singer table, but I think in the end it was worth it.

I had to cut open the two holes for the old leather belt, and expand the cut towards the back so the belt would run smoothly... not too bad. Oh and I had to drill three holes for the motor to be attached as the old motors and four holes and don't line up with the new motor.

It's much smaller and the great thing about it is you can adjust the speed of the machine much more than just the foot pedal. You can set it for low to high and that's as fast as it will go... not more crazy run-a-aways..

I love the old real wood tables and wanted to keep it as nice as I could. I also rewired the old original light so no more, "Will I be electrocuted by turning it on today"

The original foot pedal to the table. I can't tell you how much fun having a real heavy duty machine is. I can sew anything with this one. Leather, heavy duty canvas, you name it. It's Vintage Gear for Guys.

ALL METAL SCISSORS / SHEARS

today it's some of my shears / scissors...

I really love the old all metal scissors. I can't stand the new plastic ones as they're always flimsy and just don't cut like the old ones do.

This is a few of the vintage pairs I've picked up over the years.

Wiss pinking...

Smiley's

and Norleigh. All kind of non-brand name except for the Wiss. I'm still on the look out where ever I go and you'd be surprised how much the older ones cost as compared to even the new all metal ones. Well worth it to pick them up as they'll last you a lifetime. It's Vintage Gear for Guys!

TECHNICS DIRECT DRIVE AUTOMATIC SL-5

Today it's a really cool record player I found.

A Technics Direct Drive Automatic SL-5.

It's very compact as you can see, just the width of a 33.

And doesn't sound too bad. Doesn't sound as great as my Bang and Olufsen but not bad.

My B& O lid spring is broken and it's tough to open and close now, so I'll probably start just using this one.

Where's the needle arm you ask? well there is none. It's a direct drive as the needle is in the lid and moves right to left as the record spins... cool huh?

I never had one of these direct drives but the only thing that I'll miss is cuing up the record.

you can do it with a button, but I think I'll miss lifting the needle...

Over all I'm looking forward to playing some of my records with this new machine.... It's Vintage Gear for Guys!

SUNBEAM EGG COOKER E2

Today it's a very cool old Egg Cooker

It's a SunBeam Egg Cooker E2.

All you do is add the right amount of water, add your eggs and turn it on.

I'm guessing this is from the early 50's.

This is a plastic tube with measurements for the amount of water.

And the simple, on and off... beats just plugging it in.

It's a selvedge denim wallet Lanyard.

Made with my 1929 Singer sewing machine.

Nickel plated hardware and vintage 1920's copper rivets.

Blue selvedge.

1940'S FLAP POCKET GABARDINE WOOL SHIRT

Today I'm digging out a box of cool clothes that I'm going to put up on ebay...

I've had this shirt, but never had the right time to wear it so since I haven't worn it, I should let someone else enjoy it.

It's a vintage late 40's / 50's flap pocket wool "camp" shirt with just awesome details.

Made by Buck-Skein Jor.... nice big size too...

The fabric is what really caught my eye. It's has this amazing cross stitched pattern on the wool.

Having one or two of these type of shirts in your collection can really fit the bill if you have the right place to wear them. And finding one in a large size is next to imposable nowadays... It's Vintage Gear for Guys!

SINGER SEWING 95-10 MACHINE

Today it's yes, another sewing machine...

I actually bought two of these.. kind of a matching pair.

Singer Single Stitch 95-10. One from 1926 and the other I think from 1936.

Has a great story behind them. I got them from the son of a lady and her sister who bought them used in the 1950's to make wedding dresses... I think they used them for a year or so and then just put them away.

Here's the original clutch with the original GE motor. The other one was upgraded in the 50's with a "newer" motor.

The things I love about these are one the machines, and two the desks they come with.

Accessory drawer on the one.

Yes that cord makes me shiver also... I'll be rewiring it very soon. I love these old machines and I've been waiting for an Industrial single stitch with some history for Early To Rise to get into bigger denim/canvas items.... It's Vintage Gear for Guys!

TOWNCRAFT SADDLE SHOES

Today we're back in the saddle again...

I was at the thrift store this weekend and this pair just came out a bit me.

I love saddle shoes and although it's not the pair I've always wanted (navy blue with white leather in a size 11... hint, hint, hint) they fit the bill.

Vintage Penny's Towncraft saddle shoes. I'd guess from the late 70's early 80's. Still made in the USA!

And saddle shoes have to have that red rubber sole....

I think these are timeless, goes with jeans or dressy pants... They're super comfortable and stand out a bit from the crowd.... It's Vintage Gear for Guys!

SYLVAIA P25 BLUE DOT SUPERFLASH BULBS

Today it's some cool stuff I found I had in a box...

I found these years ago and just couldn't... not get them.

Two boxes of Sylania "Blue Dot" Superflash Bulbs! One from the 40's and one from the 50's....

Back before the instant flash was invented, every photograph that used a flash used these.

I'm sure you've seen them in the old movies, but you'd stick these in a flash unit that took batteries and when you click the shutter, Bam! One of these would go off.

The crazy thing is these are a one time use... So a box of these for every 12 shots? Talk about waste...

Back when you could actually choose what film type you used.

I've used a couple of these just to see what they do, how the sound and yes, they're awesome. I'm not sure they still make these, but if you find some, pick them up because they're Vintage Gear for Guys!

VINTAGE THERMOS BOTTLE POLLY RED TOP no. 5486

Today it's a vintage Thermos Bottle.

I got this one when I picked up the other last week.

It's a large Quart thermos.

It looks like it has a screw lid, but it's actually a plastic cork.

It must have been an in-between in vacuum bottle technology.

Still has a very lovely glass liner.

and of course the lid functions as a lid and a cup.

I'm really digging these old thermoses.

I guess if you broke the glass you could get a replacement since they list the filler no. on the bottom. I still don't trust these "cork" style ones though after all these years with a bottle laying down... But it is very cool Vintage Gear for Guys!

1950's LINCOLN BEAUTYWARE KITCHEN CANISTERS

Today is two cool 50's kitchen canisters I found.

1950's Lincoln Beautyware...

I just found the Sugar and Flour ones.

Both chromed Steel and very well made.

Awesome graphics on these.

Can hold a pound of flour without any trouble.

I store rice in the sugar one...

The bottom.

They look great next to my stove. These aren't so uncommon that you can't find them. Now you know what to look for. I'd like to find the others that go with the set.... It's Vintage Gear for Guys!

NOS PILGRIM PIGSKIN DRIVING GLOVES

Today it's a cool pair of NOS vintage driving gloves.

From Pilgrim. In unlined pigskin.

My dad had a similar pair back in the 60's that were lined and almost falling apart they were worn so much.

This pair doesn't look used at all. Sized medium.

I like the three lines they always put on fancy gloves.

It's getting harder and harder to find NOS vintage wear. But if you keep looking you might get lucky. It's Vintage Gear for Guys!

LATE 50'S PANASONIC RC-1091 CLOCK RADIO

today it's a cool old alarm radio clock I picked up...

It's a vintage late 50's Panasonic clock radio.

Very Space Age looking.

Has clock, AM radio and alarm.

Very cool for a swinging pad... or if you like Ames style stuff.

Still works. Probably needs a tune up after all these years, but still in great shape.

Check out the "atomic" dials...

Cool old clocks are a must for a Vintage Gear Guy....

VINTAGE THERMOS BOTTLE 2280

Today it's my new Thermos!

Actually an old Thermos to be exact...

It matches my lunchbox (previous post) and fits inside it perfectly...

Red plastic lid/cup.

So old it still takes a cork! Can you imagine using corks today on a thermos? It's even the original cork as it's stamped Thermos Brand!

Glass lined. I bet these are much cleaner after a year or two of coffee then the new stainless models...

Still made in the USA...

Model 2280 to be exact.

All the pieces... What a beautiful little item this is. Don't you wish they still made them like this? It's Vintage Gear for Guys!

LITTLE JOHN AM TRANSISTOR RADIO

So back in the 70's the novelty gift giving was super hot....

Referred to as a "Gag Gift" this is one of them.

Still in the original box and never used... I wonder why?

It even has the original 9 volt battery in the plastic and not corroded!

Who wouldn't want to listen to the big game on a pink toilet right?

Made in Hong Kong...

Too bad AM radio is pretty much just talk now, it would be fun to listen to the stations through your portable toilet...

I like cool stuff like this as it's not that common and I guarantee you'd be the only one out there walking around listening to your pink toilet. It's Vintage Gag Gear for guys!

SELVEDGE DENIM WORK APRON

Since I'm always fixing things and making things, my clothes have been getting a bit dirty...

So I made this to keep me clean.

I liked how it turned out so much I'm offering them for sale on EarlyToRiseLA.com... link to my workwear site at the top right.

I used raw Cone 12 oz denim with lovely yellow selvedge from a few years ago.

I made it with all cotton thread, copper rivets and leather instead of what you always see as they used gromits. Not sure if it's better but it sure looks nicer. I also got to use my vintage sewing machines too...

I even have hidden selvedge on each pocket... just a little detail to make me smile. I mean if you're going to make it yourself, why not make it exactly how you want it.... It's Vintage Gear for Guys.

1936 SINGER 81-72 OVERLOCK SEWING MACHINE

Today, yes I'm afraid it's another sewing machine...

But this one is probably my coolest machine ever...

It's an overlock sewing machine from Singer. A 81-72. From 1936.

It's just so awesome. It's got levers and metal pieces all over and it's just so cool to look at.

This is the machine the makes the stitch like you'd find on an end to fabric. Like on a pant seam or edge of a blanket... It also cuts off the remaining fabric with two knives that work as the sewing machine stitches.

I just picked this up so it's not currently working and I have no idea how to thread this thing yet... Manual aren't actually all over the place.

The back. It weights probably 30-40 pounds. It's a chunk.

a peak inside. Oil caps to fill, tension discs and more levers. It does spin freely so that's the best part. I think everything is still there.... I hope...

Vintage sewing machines are a passion of mine. I just love the mechanics, the design and the usufullness of them. Plus, this one might have been used to sew old denim! It's Vintage Gear for Guys!

BIG MAC HICKORY STRIPE WORK PANTS

today it's a pair of Big Mac work pants.

Can't quite place the year on these as they do have a talon 42 zipper but it's like not a typical talon 42 so these might be a reproduction perhaps?

I'd guess the 80's on these but I'm not sure.

Nice all cotton hickory stripe. With pocket for paint brush or hammer plus ruler

I know they re did their line last year or so, but these are not from that series.

the watch pocket and rivet. Copper on the front, steel on the back.

I don't own a pair of hickory stripe pants so now I do. Looking forward to getting them dirty. It's Vintage Gear for Guys.

VINTAGE SINGER SEWING MACHINE DARNING

Today it's an old Singer Sewing Machine.

I bought three machines when I picked up my 29-4. This was part of that lot. I sold the other Darning machine as it was more heavy duty but kept this smaller one for personal use.

I'm just starting to clean and oil it up.

Although it doesnt' say singer anymore it is. The M.G. Sewing Machine Co. probably just re badged when they serviced it.

I almost have it working now too. That's the bobbin there inside the arm.

Not sure it's properly threaded... I also need to clean out the tensions on it.

If you notice, it doesn't have feet to move the work as you just move it yourself over that smooth metal to fix a hole in your fabric.

Every dry cleaner would have one of these machines back in the day as people repaired their clothes much more than today. Personally I like a patch on my pants or work shirt... I think it give it character. It's Vintage Gear for Guys... oh and if you now which model this one is please let me know!

FLORSHEIM V-CLEAT SMOOTH TOE DRESS SHOES

Today it's a nice pair of V-Cleat Florsheims.

These are not the longwings I find all the time, but a smooth toe.

Top quality as all older Florsheims are.

I wish these were a bit bigger as I'd be wearing them.

And they all have this on the inside.

And now the famous V-Cleat. (actually covered over by those metal protectors....

but always look for the five nails here on the sole...

Every guy needs a pair of dress shoes or a few pairs and these fit the bill to a tee... Get a top notch pair of modern or if you can find them get the Vintage ones, as well, I think they're better... but that's me... It's Vintage Gear for Guys!
