Anyone know where I can buy this shirt in SF?
it's not "from some school in San Fran" - this was standard issue for all public schools in the City for years and years. having the yellow side was a great relief to 6th graders who didn't like to stand out among the 8th graders when it was "shirts vs. skins". in particular I remember wearing it in middle school 1980-1982. i am as old as frickin dirt.
I was able to buy a new one of these at the (now defunct) Sullivan Sporting Goods store on Geary around 1998. I've looked for a replacement recently and have not seem them carried anywhere. Suspect the City has dropped this as the required "uniform" for P.E. class - much as they've lost interest in physical education in general.
Each school has its own P.E. uniforms now,and that started in the mid 90's when i went to H.S. in San Francisco. But i remember my older brother's wearing the navy blue and yellow ones in the early 90's.
1980's? How about 1973. I went to Junior High School in San Francisco - Marina Junior High, to be precise. This shirt was required (with matching shorts) for PE class, along with your first jock strap. All the sporting goods stores carried them. The gold bar across the front is where your last name was written with an El Marko permanent ink pen so Mr. Gufstaad could yell at you and without even having to remember your name.
Great shirt. I bought one back in the early 90s at Kaplans on Market St. It was the last one but I bought it anyway even though it was probably a size too small. Not sure what I did with it. Probably gave it to my little brother. I bought a sweatshirt version on ninerfaithful.com. The also have a t-shirt version but it's not the same reversible version like the original. The sweatshirt is pretty cool though. I get lots of compliments from the fellow SF natives.
Haha---- I had one of these in the early 80's when I was at Hoover Middle School in SF. I wish I still had it, but it would be pretty small now. I never liked the double fabric, though. I always found them to be hot and uncomfortable. And since I was a small kid, I found them to always be way too large as well.
I repped one of those shirts from 1987-1990 at Roosevelt Jr. High. Shit was stanky and the shorts had S.F. P.E. on them as well.
