Every guy needs a good carving set for those special times when your ordinary kitchen knife just won't do.
I picked up a set a few years ago for just such occasions.

This is from one of my favorite knife makers, Gerber. It's their "Excalibur" line.

It's probably from the 80's. But very nice. Solid walnut case, solid steel knife, fork and steel.

It really goes through a turkey like nobody's business. I only use it a few times a year but it's really nice to have the right tool for the job.

Plus it looks great just waiting till the next time. A nice carving set is gear that a vintage gear guy needs.

  1. that knife set is not from the 80 it is late 50's or 60's they stopped making these knifes in the late 60's early 70's. Do more research on those knives. you have money there ebay at leat for $300.00 I have seen them go for.

  2. Not $300! I just bought a Gerber carving set in a walnut case and red felt lined there and this one had the 15 1/2" "Snickersnee", 12" "Durendal"and the 11 1/4" "Ron" fork and it cost me $36.01 + $12.00 shipping. $48.01 all together and it was in unused condition. Someone had gotten it for a wedding present and put it in the storage room and it was forgotten. Yes, they are from the mid 60's, at least my set is.I have 3 of the steel Gerber "Gungnir" also that I bought from there. I liked the way they look so I bought them all, lol.
